The new album by renowned pianist and excellent artist Débora Halász, entitled "Haydn - As Sonatas Esterházy", is now available. This collection presents six sonatas composed by Joseph Haydn, dedicated to Prince Nikolaus Esterházy, one of the composer's greatest patrons of the arts and mentor.
Regarding the choice of repertoire, Halász comments: " In my childhood and youth I played several sonatas by Mozart and Beethoven, indispensable composers in pianistic training, but Haydn was not in my repertoire. I believe that, even today, Haydn remains eclipsed by fascination that surrounds Mozart, which now seems completely unfair to me ."
With "Haydn - The Esterházy Sonatas", Débora Halász unveils the sometimes eclipsed genius of one of the greatest composers of the classical period, revealing the beauty and audacity of Joseph Haydn's piano sonatas.
The pianist emphasizes the unique qualities of Haydn's sonatas, describing them as " extremely intelligent, challenging both technically and musically for the pianist. Full of humor and surprises, they provide fertile ground for imagination and fantasy ."
Alexandre Dias, from Instituto Piano Brasileiro (IPB) , praises Halász's approach to this album, saying: " The type of sound of this piano has many harmonics. It is a very rich piano. And, in my opinion, it presents a very contemporary approach , which establishes a very pertinent dialogue with our days about these Haydn sonatas ."
Originally written for harpsichord, the instrument with which Halász had his first contact with these works, the pianist explains her interpretative approach: " Based on the characteristics of the instrument, the different recording possibilities, the type of articulation, the tempos, I developed my interpretation of these sonatas, each of them with its distinct identity ."
Through his sensitive and technically impeccable interpretation, Halász invites the listener to embark on a musical journey full of humor, imagination and emotion, celebrating the work of a composer who deserves to be recognized as much as his most famous contemporaries.
Halász defends the performance of these sonatas on a modern piano, maintaining that this " does more justice to all this variety of ideas, to the precision and clarity of the playing and, above all, allows me, in the slow movements, a “sustain” and “cantabile” more expressive ."
With this release, Débora Halász reaffirms her commitment to bringing to the public's attention lesser-known masterpieces of the classical repertoire, revealing Haydn's genius and originality. " Haydn was, without a doubt, another genius of the classical era who deserves to be heard and performed ," concludes the pianist.
"Haydn - As Sonatas Esterházy" is now available on the main streaming platforms and online music stores, such as Spotify and Apple Music It's an unmissable opportunity for classical music lovers to rediscover the beauty and inventiveness of Joseph Haydn's piano sonatas, in the skillful hands of Débora Halász.
